Due to the Yonsei-Berkeley joint lecture course program, a joint venture between Yonsei University and UC Berkeley, we are able to invite Professor Thomas Scanlon in spring 2010. He and professor Byunghan Kim at Yonsei University teach a graduate course jointly. The joint lecture course: Topics in model theory, covering model theoretic proof of Mordell-Lang?is already open, and Professor Kim will have taught the course until the end of April 2010. Then Professor Scanlon will take over the course and teach for 3 weeks. Separately he will also give 9 hour intensive lectures on Ax-Kochen-Ershov theory on valued fields.
Professor Scanlon is a leading expert in model theory and its applications to number theory and algebraic geometry. His pioneering works establish deep fundamental connections between model theory and number theory. He is a Sacks Prize recipient and?ICM invited speaker. Currently he is an editorial board member of Journal of AMS.

The team of Professor Jinkeun Seo, Eunjae Park, Jee-Hyun Lee and Seick Kim has received a World Class University (WCU) grant. They got the only WCU grant of type 1 awarded to mathematical science to set up the new graduate program
Computational Science and Engineering.

Professor Jeong Han Kim has received the KyungAhm Academic Prize.
He was an invited speaker to ICM 2006, the winner of 1997 Fulkerson Prize and an 1997 Alfred P. Solan Fellow. He is an Underwood Chair Professor, the highest honor among Yonsei faculty.

Professor Jeong Han Kim is the new director of the National Institute of Mathematical Science, which is the Korean version of MSRI.
